Khorezm region 

Khorezm region is located in the North-Eastern part of Uzbekistan, on the left coast of the Amu Darya river. The major cities of this region are Urgench, Khiva, Pitnak. Such famous scientists as Biruni, al-Khorezm, Zamakhshari, Ogakhi worked in Khorezm. Here was founded the first Academy of Sciences in Central Asia, called "Mamun Academy". The city of Khiva, which has more than 2500 years of history, is a real open-air museum. There are 255 objects of architectural and cultural heritage in the region, some of them are included in the list of protected historical sites of UNESCO. Ichan-Kala, famous Friday mosque, the citadel Kunya-Ark, the Stone Palace, Pakhlavan Makhmud mausoleum, the madrasah of Muhammad Amin Khan, Kalta Minor minaret, the complex "Islam Khoja", the fortress of Toprak Kala, the mausoleum of said Alauddin madrassah of Allakuli-Khan, Ota Darvoza, the madrasah of Shirgazi-Khan, and many others are included in the unique monuments of history.
